Mykonos

July 15 – 17, 2017

We arrived in Mykonos late afternoon. We checked into the Portobello Boutique Hotel. We had spectacular views of the Old Port and windmills. We were about a five-minute walk down a path to the Old Port. And a five-minute walk up! The rooms were small but well-appointed, with good beds and good linens. Breakfast was delicious!! Homemade breads and jams and made to order eggs.

The first night we had dinner in Mykonos Town at Alegro overlooking the sea. The view was stunning! We had front row seats as the sun set over the boats and the harbor.

After dinner we walked to the hill with the iconic windmills. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the windmills from the harbor. There are wonderful narrow streets holding a plethora of shops and restaurants. And very white. Of the 16 windmills on Mykonos, seven are positioned on the famous landmark hill in Chora.  Postcard perfect! We looked down on the seven windmills from our hotel.

The next morning we slept in and decided to have a “beach day.” Allan stayed back and read and Madison, Jacob, and I took a taxi to Agios Ioannis Beach. We rented beach beds, swam, and sunbathes. It was a perfect way to spend the day.

We decided that we could not leave the island without having the best Gyros in Mykonos, Sakis. Sakis lived up to its name.

The next morning we had breakfast and departed to catch our ferry to Santorini.
