Notre-Dame de Senanque Abbey

Notre-Dame de Senanque Abbey is still a Cistercian monastery, since 1148, and not a museum or a tourist site. It’s allowed to walk around the valley and the abbey. The community of monks gives you the opportunity to follow a guided tour, in French only, inside the 12th century buildings. You can see the church, the cloister, the chapter-hall, the warming room and the ancient dormitory.

I really wanted to see the lavender blooming. We missed it. We were a bit too early in the season. But the photo below is my inspiration to go back.
