Zakynthos and Shipwreck Beach

July 13 & 14, 2017

Navagio Beach, Shipwreck Cove, is one of the most photographed beaches in the world. Shipwreck Cove was on my Bucket List. Then Jacob found it doing pre-trip research and thought it looked like fun. Not hard to get to, but did add a travel day/flight to our itinerary, so I was thrilled when Jacob wanted to go. Zakynthos is one of the Ionian Islands along the western coastline of Greece. It is one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen. And I’ve seen many.

We flew from Naples to Zakynthos, Greece on July 13. We checked in at St John Villas in Tsilivi and were upgraded from a 2 BR to a 3 BR. We loved having a private pool and our own rooms. Dinner in the hotel’s Pergola Restaurant was excellent! Amazing views of the Ionian Sea and the surrounding olive groves. We recommend the Chicken Souvlaki!

The next day we explored the island by private boat and car. I did pre-book a private boat, as we were only on the island one day and had very specific ideas about what we wanted. We used Blue Shore Motorboat Cruises. All booked by email. Alex was an amazing guide. Our first stop was Shipwreck Cove or Smugglers Cove also called Navagio Beach.  Jacob swam ashore. We continued our tour of the island stopping at the Blue Caves.

Then we took a car to the viewing platform. Shipwreck Beach and the views from the viewing platform were absolutely AMAZING! However, the platform is crowded and does not give you the best panorama. Follow the little path along the cliff, and you will be treated to the most breathtaking views. The color is exactly as it is in the pictures. Incredible turquoise blue waters. Be very careful! There is no railing. This is the picture that made me want to go to Zakynthos, before I even knew where it was!

Alex suggested at a local spot for lunch and a swim in the sea. Allan and Jacob swam. Alex recommended we use his uncle Leo in Athens for our transportation and tour. He set everything up during lunch. After lunch, we headed back to the villa to change and pack for our flight to Athens.

I would highly recommend Alex and Blue Shore Motorboat Tours. In Athens, we used his uncle, Leo, for everything!
